Symantec certificate error in Chrome DevTools
Answer ID 9976   |   Last Review Date 03/11/2019

Why do I receive a warning message about the Symantec SSL certificate in Chrome DevTools?

Environment:

Chrome version 62 and newer

Customers using custom domain VHOSTs and certificates issued by Symantec, Thawte, GeoTrust or RapidSSL

Issue:

The SSL certificate used to load resources from https://<yourcustomerportalurl> will be distrusted in M70. Once distrusted, users will be prevented from loading these resources. See https://g.co/chrome/symantecpkicerts for more information.

Resolution:

You will need to renew the certificate through DigiCert or any other reputable Certificate Authority prior to release of Chrome 70. You can check if the certificate needs to be renewed by visiting https://www.websecurity.symantec.com/support/ssl-checker.

Cause:

At the end of July, the Chrome team and the PKI community converged upon a plan to reduce, and ultimately remove, trust in Symantec’s infrastructure in order to uphold users’ security and privacy when browsing the web.
