Can't create concept for certain abbreviations like "ORS" or "AMS"
Answer ID 12808   |   Last Review Date 03/28/2024

How do I get Manage Search Query (MSQ) to let me create a concept for the search term AMS?

Environment:

  • Oracle B2C Service sites with Knowledge Advanced only
  • Any version
  • Manage Search Query (MSQ)
  • Concept creation
Issue:

We are unable to create a concept for the search terms "AMS" and "ORS" in an English locale.

Resolution:

We found that this cannot be done. When you review "How Search Interprets the Question," you will see that "AMS" and "ORS" are interpreted as "am" and "or," which are skip words. Search will ignore these terms in the query.

Notes:

In other languages, the ontologies vary. In this English example the "s" is being dropped just as it might be from other words that have been pluralized by adding "s" or "es." In any language, you can put the query into MSQ and see what concept is matched. If that is a skip word in your language, this behavior will be the same.
