URL answers appearing in suggestions but not search results
Answer ID 12712   |   Last Review Date 09/28/2023

Why are some URL_ANSWER type articles coming up in search suggestions but not search results?

Environment:
  • Sites with Knowledge Advanced only
  • URL_ANSWER content type

Issue:
When we search with a keyword from the title, in the suggestions the URL_ANSWER type contents are showing. When we hit enter those articles are not showing in the results page.
Cause:
  • The links were to pages in the organization's corporate intranet.
  • The knowledge base crawler does not have the same authentication capabilities as the external collection crawler.
  • In order to appear in search results, the document must be successfully crawled and indexed.
  • The articles showed up in search suggestions because suggested search is generated by the Find (Lucene) index based on the title typed into summary field of the content in Authoring.

Resolution:
  • For links that are not available on the public internet, use an external collection instead of a URL answer.
  • If you want links that are not crawled to appear in search results, put them in a content type that does not have the reference key URL_ANSWER and they will be treated like normal knowledge base articles.
