Environment:
Oracle B2C Service
Issue:
When accessing the Attachments tab in a workspace, the "Open" option is grayed out and is not clickable or is missing.
Resolution:
If the attachments tab is using the standard "File Attachment" control, this option is controlled via the "FATTACH_OPEN_ENABLED" configuration setting. This setting enables the option to open file attachments in the Oracle B2C Service Console and to View attachments in the Browser User Interface. If disabled, file attachments can only be downloaded. This may be desirable for security reasons. Default is disabled (No).
Once enabled, the following file types are supported by default in both the .NET and Browser UI (BUI): bmp, gif, jpeg, jpg, json, mp4, pdf, png, txt. Please note that it is not possible to selectively enable or restrict individual file types from this list. The configuration applies to all supported file types as a single group. Additionally, Microsoft Excel and Word files can be viewed in the .NET interface; however, this functionality is not supported in Browser UI. This difference is due to the nature of the platforms: the .NET client is a native Windows application, which can invoke locally installed applications such as Microsoft Excel or Word. In contrast, browser-based applications generally do not have the ability to launch or integrate with locally installed software in the same way.
Additional file types can be enabled upon request. However, please note that the ability to preview or render these files - particularly in the Browser UI - depends on whether the browser supports the specific file format. Furthermore, enabling the viewing of .html files is not recommended due to potential security risks. HTML files may contain embedded scripts that could execute when opened, which can expose the application to malicious activity. If you would like to enable support for an additional file type that is compatible with your browser, please submit a service request via Ask Technical Support. We will review the request and enable the file type if it is supported.
Note:
If the attachments tab is using a custom report instead of the "File Attachment" control, see also Answer ID 6262: Attachments will not open in the console, no "Open" action availableFor additional information, refer to the File-Attachment Security section in the Online Help User Guide documentation.
