What are the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) settings, and how do they relate to my site?

Environment:

Oracle B2C Service, All supported versions, sites in FG pod

Issue:

We are unclear as to how FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) influence our B2C Service instance

Resolution:

FIPS is a series of standards that apply to non-military and government-contracted companies, meant to ensure a baseline of information security and the handling of data. They are a list of federally approved minimums, however they do not necessarily reflect the most current security measures or updates that exist on the web. Our hosted federal pods are kept current with all US government mandates, and this also applies to how we store and handle data. No additional configuration is needed on the client workstation aside from ensuring full connectivity to our domains, using SSL/TLS.
